Shop the local fave's with Felkke

Hello, bonjour, ciao; as we write our latest blog post we feel somewhat lucky to be South Australians and moving forward from ISO life and  towards our new normal whilst many parts of the country are still coping with lockdowns, increased cases and the long road map out of isolation.

One small role we can play in helping our communities get back on track is to support small businesses that have had such a hard time coping with reduced hours, restrictions and closures. The enormity of the pandemic and the flow on effects to small retailers has made us focus on buying locally and supporting South Australian businesses.

We have found that not only our clients, but friends and family have used this time to give their homes a cleanse and as the Spring days show us a glimpse of warmer weather and longer days it sparks an energy to update our homes whilst they are looking so fabulous and sorted. So keeping this in mind we have put together some of our favourite South Australian homewares and furniture stores so you can use it as a guide on your search for the perfect new addition to your homes.

Magill Rd

Magill Road in recent years has certainly become one of Adelaide’s popular shopping precincts with a selection of homeware stores, kitchen and bathroom suppliers, and of course what Magill Road was originally known for, the perfect Antiquities. We love the variance of wares available on this strip and can’t wait for our next excuse to visit all of the fabulous stores again.

One of our favourite stores is Twopairs. The minute you walk into Twopairs, you are greeted by the most beautifully displayed homewares and furniture. Most of the items in this store are monochromatic with the addition of timber and the occasional pop of colour. There is something for any interior in this store, whether it is the glass hurricane lamps for your dining table or console or the stunning textiles ready to be carefully considered for your home. Twopairs also have a fabulous range of kitchenware and serving boards and if you are stuck for eye catching lighting then you cannot look past the Normann Copenhagen Bell pendants or the Seletti Monkey lamps.

If fashion is more your thing then you will not be disappointed by the stunning luxurious fashion brands hanging in the clothing corner of the store. This store is certainly a feast of the senses and will have you gasping as you take in all its beauty.

Some other stores that we often visit are Abbode Interior Products, for wallpaper and fabric selections, not to mention their stunning range of rugs and furniture. Asser and Co will also get your heart pumping, with the addition of Ferm Living, a stunning Danish brand that certainly has us excited. But don’t stop there, make sure you visit 1k Chairs, Flourish and a little further down the road, Adelaide Restoration and the stunning Aura Objects with a beautiful display of designer furniture.

The next stop on our list of must-see interior stores would have to be One Rundle Trading Co at Dulwich. This converted theatre or hall is vast and absolutely filled to the brim with not only fabulous homewares and fashion but also one-off pieces and antiquities. Your senses will certainly be feasting as you take in everything on offer walking around this fabulous store.

Maple, is another great store and close by if you are pressed for time on your exploring day, featuring some well-known brands such as Missoni, Tom Dixon and Muuto. Fashion here also ladies!

Colonel Light Gardens

Heading away from Dulwich and Fullarton, we can often be found in the quiet neighbourhood of Colonel Light Gardens visiting our favourite hidden gem, Little Bohemian. You will find this colourful gem on The Strand next to the stunning Ponder Posey and a few doors down from the fabulous Local Crowd. If you love colour then this store is our pick for you. Leah has been making cushions since 2011 and has some absolute beauties in her store. If you are after a one of a kind you can select fabric in the store and come up with a design together. We recently featured a Bonnie and Neil cushion and some fabulous book ends in Felicity’s boy’s bedroom makeover that you may remember from Little Bohemian.

Travelling towards the beach you can pop into Westfield at Marion and have a quick or long look at OmMade Meet the Maker. This store is genius. The concept of this store is to showcase some of Adelaide’s finest creators’ wares and sometimes you can meet the maker in the store too. From handmade soaps to photography this store has a bit of everything. The plus too is that there is a second store at the Adelaide Central Markets.

Once you have taken in the incredible talent at OmMade, travelling along the coastline keep an eye out for Pebble and Palm on Sturt Rd followed by Aqua living on Jetty Rd, Brighton, Summertown Studio in Warradale and then down to Homebasics Design on Jetty Rd, Glenelg.

Homebasics is filled with many brands we love. Armadillo and Co, Globe West and Sage and Clare just to mention a few. We love the colourful and eclectic wares that this store showcases especially for a fun and creative interior.  This store is nothing short of wonderful however if you can’t find what you are looking for there, then pop over to Aqua Living, where you will find great décor pieces if you are needing a finishing touch, for your newly decorated space. They also offer a range of great gifts in store.

The best part about beach side shopping is breathing in the fresh sea air and feeling the sand between your toes as you reflect on the dollars you have just spent adorning your home in such beautiful possessions. However, if there is still some shopping energy left or better still you have another day to explore, then head to the Adelaide Hills for some further inspiration. You will not be disappointed!

The Adelaide Hills

Well we are spoilt for choice in the Adelaide Hills! Living by Design at Balhannah, Pony at Charleston, 29 Milan, Three Birds and Aptos Cruz at Stirling and the newest addition, Fred Living at Aldgate. All of these are high up on our list of great interior stores. Living by Design also has stores at Kensington, Pt Elliot, Victor Harbor and the Barossa Valley so if you can’t get to the Adelaide Hills then hopefully you have one closer to you. If you love some Marimekko, they have a fabulous range of kitchenware and homewares or if you require a sofa or dining table then you will have a lot of fun in this store finding the perfect piece.

Fred Living, a sister store to Fred Eatery opened its doors only a couple of months ago and is already becoming a fave find. Not only is there something here for your home but they also cater for our furry friends. Whilst this shop is tiny in size, it is packed full of fun, eclectic and creative pieces. This is a must on a day in the Adelaide Hills and whilst you are there pop into Fred Eatery for something to refuel and if you still have some shopping to do then don’t forget to visit One Elk also in the Aldgate Village.

HomeMaker Centre

Finally, we can’t forget the Home Maker Centre at Mile End.  Again we are spoilt for choice and this shopping centre does cater for every interior and also every budget, consisting of chain like stores such as Adairs, Provincial Home Living, Nick Scali and Freedom. One of the newer additions here is One World Collection, a store that is possibly more for a Hamptons inspired home or even for someone after a more traditional and timeless interior.

Hopefully, this list has made you think about getting offline, jumping in the car and heading to one of South Australia’s very own wonderfully curated homewares or furniture stores. Let’s support local. Let us focus on creating beautiful interiors. Let us begin exploring and finding our own hidden gems. Happy shopping.
